Title of artwork: Deer in the Spinney
Medium: Hooked rag rug technique
Size: 40 x 37 cms
Year: 2024
Description: A textile piece made for the wall, using the hooked rag rug technique and mill waste fabrics from where I used to work as a mender, together with fabric from unwearable garments, on a hessian base. The subject of the piece reflects my experience of a quiet moment when I came across a deer in a spinney near Selworthy. The tree motifs were inspired by foliage I'd seen carved into a Somerset 15th century church pew end. I've written about this meeting I had with the deer, in a poem called: 'each slender twig of the heart's tenure'.
