Watergram

Archival print on Ilford Baryta photo paper

A watergram is a cameraless photographic technique which captures light and moving water on silver gelatin. Siân has explored and pushed the boundaries of this technique through study at The School of Light in Los Angeles, and then through further experiments from her home in Somerset. This image was made in the darkroom, using the eye drops Siân was prescribed after undergoing major eye surgery in the treatment of her ongoing battle with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The concentric circles suggest the shape of an eye, with the other delicate, wispy lines reminiscent of the fragile and deteriorating blood vessels of diabetic eye disease.
