AK3 Linnet

One of a series of small, embroidered studies featuring birds from the British Trust for Ornithology Red list.
The linnet is a small, slim finch of open country and farmland. Because of its beautiful song it was once a very popular caged bird. Once widely distributed across the UK all year round, their numbers fell sharply between the late 1960’s – 80’s. Since then, the decline has slowed, but the overall population trend is still falling. This decline is thought to be linked to increased nest failure associated with agricultural intensification.
