PRODUCT DETAILS

The three birds featured in this series are featured flying above scanned copies of John McGeoch’s ornithological record cards dating from the 1940’s.
The swift is a medium-sized aerial bird, sleeping, eating, bathing and even mating on the wing, swifts rarely touch the ground. They are also the fastest birds in level flight. Their dark scythe-winged silhouettes are often accompanied by their screaming calls. Spending their winters in Africa, Swifts migrate 3,400 miles twice a year.
Swifts pair for life, returning to the same site each year, usually urban dwellings in tiny gaps to nest inside roofs. But as more old buildings are renovated and gaps in soffits filled, swift nest sites are fast disappearing. Other reasons for their decline are likely to include poor summer weather and a decline in insect numbers.
By installing a swift brick in a wall, or putting up a nest box, you could give a swift a place to nest.
