Make a Reduction Print cloudscape
The reduction printmaking process, unlike multi-block printing, uses only one block of lino to produce a finished image. It can be a challenging discipline as the block is destroyed with each stage of the process. But with careful planning the end results can be very satisfying.
Suitable for those who have taken part in the Cloud Reduction Print Workshop or those with some experience of lino printmaking.
Aim
This workshop will enable participants to create their own cloudscape print from scratch employing techniques and approaches learned on the previous workshop.
By the end of the workshop participants will have created one or more small cloudscape print using the lino reduction printmaking process.
Learning outcomes
Participants will understand how to:
• create a workable cloudscape design
• transfer their design to the lino block
• cut a design from a lino block
• use the reduction printmaking process
• to overlay inks
• effectively roll ink onto a block
• register an image to paper using Ternes Burton registration method
• apply the image to paper using hand burnishing
Participants will need
• a drawing or photograph of their chosen cloudscape(s) to be produced as a lino print of no more than A5 size (14 x 21cm)
• an apron or similar
Steve will provide
• lino and paper for the production of one cloudscape print
• additional lino and paper for a second cloudscape will be chargeable on the day.
